CATO MANOR– A suspected serial rapist has been arrested in Cato Manor, bringing an end to a decade-long campaign of violence after specialized police investigators linked the 46-year-old suspect to sixteen separate attacks through critical DNA evidence.
The arrest was executed on Thursday, 17 September 2026, following intensive investigations by detectives from the Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) and the Investigative Psychology Unit (IPU). According to a spokesperson for these specialized units, which operate within the broader Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), the breakthrough was the result of meticulous forensic and behavioral analysis.
Authorities report that the suspect’s alleged offending spree occurred between 2014 and 2025. The sixteen victims include fourteen women attacked in Cato Manor, one woman in Plessislaer, and one in Taylor’s Halt.
The suspect’s modus operandi primarily involved nighttime operations. He allegedly followed women of varying ages from local taverns to their residences, where he robbed and raped them. In several instances, the suspect reportedly broke into homes and assaulted vulnerable women living alone at knifepoint.
Investigators noted that the victims were initially unable to identify the perpetrator, as he consistently disguised his face by wearing pantyhose during the assaults. However, police detectives successfully connected the disparate cases by establishing a clear, repeating modus operandi and ultimately linking the suspect directly to the crimes through forensic DNA analysis.
The 46-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 September 2026. He will face multiple formal charges, including rape, housebreaking, and attempted murder.
