To commemorate Nature Photography Day on 15 June 2026, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) would like to see nature through your lenses. SANBI invites members of the public to take a moment and visit any of its botanical and zoological gardens and capture images of nature that best resonate with you. Allow the world to see nature through your lenses as it poses for a picture.
Celebrated globally, Nature Photography Day provides an opportunity for individuals around the world to share their piece of nature with other nature lovers around the world. SANBI is joining in on the celebration to see parts of their botanical and zoological gardens from your camera lenses.
“National botanical and zoological gardens are windows to South African unique biodiversity on your doorstep,” says Nontsikelelo Mpulo, Senior Manager, Marketing, Communication and Commercialisation “Our gardens allow visitors to enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature in accessible, urban green spaces. Visit SANBI’s botanical and zoological gardens and allow your creative juices to flow and capture your own magic under the winter sun.
“SANBI has introduced winter season pricing across the majority of its gardens which means you pay less to experience the botanical wonders such as the aloes which are currently flowering and the rich birdlife.”
To stand a chance to win, simply visit any SANBI botanical or zoological gardens between 12 and 16 June 2026. During your visit, take a photo that speaks to you, maybe a remembrance of a loved one, an image that best describes your mood on that day, a skeleton of branches with the fallen leaves, beautiful waterfalls and reptiles and animals.
Once you have selected up to 3 pictures of your choice, share to SANBI’s social media platforms, Facebook, X and Instagram and use the following hashtags #SANBINaturePhoto2026, #Naturethroughyourlens, #SANBI4Nature and tag SANBI along with the botanical or zoological garden you visited.
Twelve visitors will walk away with a day visit to SANBI’s botanical and zoological gardens. For an opportunity to explore the garden or zoological garden further and discover and captures moments.
Nature + Photography married each other on 15 June, to allow the world to reconnect by not only capturing beautiful pictures but starting conversations on how we see nature and best way to reconnect and save it.
Entries for Nature Photography Day end 16 June 2026, so enter and show the world what natures means to you.
