ABUJA — Nigeria intensifies its fight against growing security threats as the federal government reports significant new milestones in its ongoing military and intelligence campaigns. Despite facing persistent challenges from terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry, authorities are expanding both operational strategies and international cooperation. During a recent national address, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu highlighted the country’s dual approach of aggressive military action combined with large-scale rehabilitation efforts for repentant insurgents.
Detailing the kinetic successes of the military, President Tinubu revealed that over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralized over the course of the past year. However, he emphasized that the government’s strategy is not solely reliant on force. The administration continues to keep the door open for surrender, offering a pathway to peace for those willing to abandon violence.
This open-door policy has yielded substantial results in recent years. According to the President, more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have laid down their arms since 2023. These mass surrenders are being processed through the government’s deradicalization and reintegration framework, which aims to safely transition former combatants back into society.
Highlighting the humanitarian and democratic value of these rehabilitation efforts, President Tinubu explained the core philosophy behind the initiative. “Through Operation Safe Corridor, we turn our former enemies into citizens because every life saved is a victory for democracy,” he stated. The program has become a cornerstone of the nation’s broader strategy to permanently end the cycles of insurgency that have plagued various regions.
To sustain this momentum, security forces are actively stepping up both operational and intelligence-led responses across the country. Authorities note that defeating entrenched insurgent networks requires a multifaceted approach. As a result, Nigeria is also expanding its cooperation with international partners, leveraging global intelligence and support to further improve security and stability across the nation.
