MAKHADO, Limpopo — Ahead of the November 4 Local Government Elections, the African People’s Convention (APC) is demonstrating that political conviction can outweigh financial backing. The party is actively campaigning in the Makhado Local Municipality, navigating severe funding shortfalls without compromising its core principles.
Triani Mthetho, the APC’s mayoral candidate for the Makhado Municipality, echoed the sentiments of many smaller parties struggling to secure campaign capital. Now 19 years old, the APC operates as a strictly self-funded organization, a reality that makes penetrating new electoral areas incredibly difficult.
Mthetho pointed out that the lack of funds directly impacts their physical campaign visibility, resulting in a shortage of election posters in certain regions. However, the party leadership remains steadfast in its integrity.
“We are not prepared to sell our convictions,” Mthetho stated, reinforcing the party’s commitment to ethical campaigning.
Despite the visible financial limitations, the APC remains optimistic about its grassroots appeal. Mthetho noted that the party is pushing forward by doing the best they can with their available resources. “We are in a better position today because we believe that without funds, we can still make it and make sure that everybody gets what they want,” he added, expressing confidence that their ideological stance will secure voter support on election day.
