Alexandra Firearm Arrest: Johannesburg Police Seize Unlicensed 9mm Pistol in Mall Operation

An intelligence-led raid in Alexandra yields a defaced handgun, live rounds, and a knife, leading to the detention of a 46-year-old suspect facing imminent court proceedings.

ALEXANDRA – An Alexandra firearm arrest has resulted in the detention of a 46-year-old man by the Johannesburg District police, following a targeted, intelligence-driven operation at a local shopping center on 24 August 2026.

Acting on a tip-off regarding a suspicious individual allegedly carrying a weapon, law enforcement officers swiftly converged on the specified shopping mall. Upon identifying the man, authorities executed a search that uncovered illegal contraband.

The search yielded an unlicensed 9mm pistol with its serial numbers intentionally filed off, alongside 11 live rounds of ammunition and a single knife.

All seized weapons and ammunition have been secured by the Johannesburg District police. The items will now undergo comprehensive ballistic testing and further forensic investigation to trace their origins and potential links to other criminal activities.

The 46-year-old suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on 26 August 2026. Police officials confirmed that active investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
