CENTURION — A major Centurion minibus taxi crash during the early morning rush hour has left 16 people with minor to moderate injuries after two vehicles collided and overturned in the central business district.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the mass casualty incident at the intersection of South Street and Heuwel Street at approximately 07:00 on Wednesday. Upon arrival, crews found both minibus taxis had overturned following the impact. While the precise cause of the collision remains under investigation, rapid medical interventions were immediately initiated to triage the victims.
A comprehensive multi-agency task force converged on the location to manage the complex scene. CERT-SA Emergency Medical Services coordinated the primary medical response, working seamlessly alongside PRSS, ER24, Emergency Medical Solutions, Funcure, and Ras911. Municipal and law enforcement support was provided by the Tshwane Emergency Services Department and the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department. Furthermore, First Help Towing and Precision Towing assisted with the logistical and vehicle recovery operations.
Following on-site assessments and treatment, all 16 patients were successfully transported to various hospitals for continued medical care.
