EASTERN CAPE — A 23-year-old Cofimvaba shooting suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance today after a coordinated tactical operation resulted in the confiscation of two illegal weapons. The man, hailing from Maya Locality, was intercepted by law enforcement while traveling with an unlicensed firearm, ending a period of intense anxiety for local residents.
The breakthrough occurred on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. At approximately 12:00, authorities received actionable intelligence indicating the individual was transporting a weapon from his home base in Cofimvaba toward Komani. Acting swiftly on the tip-off regarding the alleged random discharge of firearms that had left the neighborhood terrified, a specialized task force was immediately deployed.
The multidisciplinary unit consisted of operatives from the Komani Flying Squad, the Police Dog Unit (K9), and Crime Intelligence. Upon intercepting the 23-year-old during this intelligence-driven operation, officers conducted an immediate search. This yielded an unlicensed Norinco handgun along with live ammunition, leading to his arrest on formal charges of illegal firearm and ammunition possession.
Investigators did not stop at the initial apprehension. The joint team escorted the detained man back to his residential homestead to conduct a secondary search of the premises. During this sweep, police uncovered a second illegal weapon—a Taurus firearm—hidden alongside more ammunition.
