Deadly Reiger Park Shootout Leaves Two Suspects Dead as Police Uncover Hijacking Safe House

In a significant strike against organized crime syndicates, a multi-agency police operation on June 8, 2026, resulted in the fatal shooting of two suspects and the seizure of illegal firearms and stolen vehicles. The incident marks the latest development in Gauteng’s relentless crackdown on aggravated robberies and vehicle hijackings.

Acting on intelligence targeting a syndicate involved in the hijacking of trucks and courier vehicles, law enforcement tracked a suspect vehicle in Boksburg. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the occupants fled, triggering a high-speed pursuit. The chase culminated in a fierce shootout near an informal settlement in Reiger Park, where the suspects’ vehicle was brought to a halt.

Following the exchange of gunfire, two suspects were found fatally wounded inside the vehicle. Two other accomplices managed to escape on foot, fleeing into the nearby informal settlement.

All police officers involved in the shootout survived unharmed. However, one patrol car sustained damage to its windscreen from the incoming gunfire. The involved officers are scheduled to undergo mandatory counseling and debriefing through the Employee Health and Wellness program.

At the Reiger Park scene, authorities confiscated two unlicensed firearms and the suspects’ Mazda vehicle.

The investigation quickly expanded beyond the shootout, leading a tactical team to a residential property in Germiston suspected of serving as a safe house for the syndicate. A search of the premises yielded a Chevrolet Captiva SUV—which was confirmed to have been stolen in connection with a robbery case in Booysens—along with a cache of fraudulent registration number plates.

A manhunt is underway for the two suspects who fled into the informal settlement. Meanwhile, detectives are continuing their extensive investigations to link the neutralized suspects and the recovered assets to other unsolved crimes across the province.
