Wonderboompoort Man Faces Court After R10,000 Bribe Attempt During R250k Stolen Goods Bust

A 34-year-old man is in police custody and facing a trio of charges after attempting to bribe officers to escape arrest in Wonderboompoort on Monday, June 8, 2026.

The suspect was apprehended following the recovery of electronic equipment valued at an estimated R250,000. While the alleged victim has successfully identified three of the confiscated devices as his own, police are continuing their probe to establish the rightful ownership of the remaining items.

In addition to being charged with the possession of suspected stolen property, the man is also facing a charge for contravening the Immigration Act. The bribery charge was added to his docket after he allegedly offered the arresting officers R10,000 in cash in a bid to evade detention. The bribe money was immediately seized by law enforcement.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Police investigations into the matter remain actively ongoing.
