Emfuleni Illegal Electricity Syndicate Mastermind Arrested by Gauteng PKTT

The eighth suspect linked to critical infrastructure sabotage and money laundering faces court as SAPS intensifies its crackdown on municipal power theft.

GAUTENG – Authorities in Gauteng have apprehended the alleged mastermind behind an Emfuleni illegal electricity syndicate, marking a major development in the ongoing crackdown on municipal power theft. The Gauteng Political Killing Task Team (PKTT) took the eighth suspect into custody, delivering a significant blow to the criminal network operating within the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

In a statement released on Thursday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the individual was taken back into police custody shortly after being released on bail for a separate, unrelated matter.

The female suspect is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Monday, 07 September 2026. She will face a slate of serious allegations, including money laundering, theft, and the damage to and theft of critical infrastructure.

Police officials noted that this apprehension is a direct outcome of sustained investigative efforts targeting a coordinated syndicate responsible for illegal electricity connections and associated criminal activities in the region.

SAPS emphasized that the probe remains highly active. Detectives are currently following multiple leads to identify, track, and apprehend every remaining individual tied to this illicit power connection network to fully dismantle the operation.
