Father Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping and Impregnating Daughter

LIMPOPO — A 42-year-old Zaaiplaas father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and impregnation of his 15-year-old biological daughter. The severe sentence was handed down at the Groblersdal Regional Court on October 22, 2026, following his conviction for violating Section 3 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007.

The court revealed a harrowing timeline of abuse that began in 2022 when the victim was a Grade 7 learner. The accused initiated a campaign of grooming and sexual abuse, initially using the guise of concern to ask if she had started menstruating, claiming he needed to buy her sanitary pads and verify her virginity. When she refused his advances, he forcibly grabbed and sexually assaulted her.

The abuse subsequently escalated to rape inside their home. During the attacks, the father covered the teenager’s mouth to muffle her screams, leaving her with severe emotional and physical trauma.

Months after the assault, the victim discovered she was pregnant. Upon learning of the pregnancy, the accused aggressively questioned her about whether she had been intimate with another man, threatening to kill her if she had. On March 25, 2023, the victim gave birth to a baby girl. Following the birth, the accused instructed his daughter to lie to her mother, falsely claiming the child belonged to someone else.

The victim’s ordeal continued until June 14, 2025, when she fled the family home with her infant, terrified that her father intended to rape her again. After spending several days in hiding, she contacted her mother and eventually returned home. It was upon her return that she finally disclosed the years of abuse and the true circumstances surrounding her child’s birth.

The matter was immediately reported to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest at his residence within the Zaaiplaas policing area. He was denied bail and remained in custody for the duration of the trial. During the investigation, the accused confessed to impregnating his daughter, a claim further corroborated by DNA evidence linking him to the crime.

The successful prosecution was driven by the diligent work of Sergeant Pebetse Maile of the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, whose thorough investigation ensured the perpetrator was brought to justice.

Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, publicly welcomed the life sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the court’s decision.

“This horrific crime represents the ultimate betrayal of trust by a parent,” Scheepers stated. “The sentence imposed by the court reflects the seriousness of the offence and sends a strong message that perpetrators who prey on vulnerable children, including members of their own families, will face the full might of the law. We commend the victim for her courage in reporting the matter and the investigating officer for ensuring that justice was served.”
