LIMPOPO – Law enforcement in Limpopo has taken two individuals into custody following the grim discovery of Jesaya Masha’s body at Arabie Dam, located within the Elandskraal policing area. The 42-year-old, who was initially reported missing from the Jane Furse area in the Sekhukhune District, was found deceased after a targeted search operation rapidly transformed a missing persons case into a homicide investigation.
The timeline of events began on Sunday, 16 August 2026, when Masha allegedly left his residence in Ga-Masha Village around 17:39. He was driving a blue Hyundai motor vehicle at the time. After he failed to return or make contact, his family filed a formal missing persons report, prompting authorities to distribute details about both the man and his vehicle to the public to aid in the search.
A major breakthrough occurred when investigators learned that the missing man’s blue Hyundai had allegedly been sold to an unsuspecting member of the public. Once the vehicle was voluntarily handed over to authorities for forensic processing, detectives from the Nebo Jane Furse Tracking Team, alongside Nebo and Sekhukhune Detectives and the Sekhukhune Flying Squad, traced the lead to a 32-year-old suspect. This individual was apprehended in Jane Furse on Friday, 21 August 2026.
Subsequent interrogations and intelligence gathering revealed allegations that Masha had been kidnapped and murdered, with his remains deliberately disposed of in Arabie Dam. In response, a specialized multidisciplinary unit was rapidly deployed. On Saturday, 22 August 2026, the operational team, reinforced by the SAPS Water Wing and Emergency Medical Services, executed a thorough search near the Arabie Dam bridge. Their efforts successfully located the victim’s body, which was recovered in an advanced state of decomposition.
The momentum of the case continued into the following day, resulting in the arrest of a second suspect, a 27-year-old individual, in Jane Furse on the morning of Sunday, 23 August 2026. Both detainees are slated to face severe charges, including kidnapping, murder, and defeating the ends of justice. Their first court appearances are scheduled to take place at the Sekhukhune and Groblersdal Magistrate’s Courts shortly.
Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, officially praised the investigating officers and all collaborating agencies. He emphasized that their rapid response, relentless persistence, and seamless coordination were directly responsible for both the recovery of the deceased and the swift apprehension of the suspects.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains highly active, and further arrests cannot be ruled out as detectives continue to follow the evidence.
