NORTHERN CAPE — A Modderrivier detective has successfully secured a 10-year prison sentence for a repeat domestic violence offender known as the ‘Weekend Special’ abuser. The Frances Baard District Management confirmed the conviction, emphasizing the decisive legal action taken against the 36-year-old man who systematically subjected his partner to severe physical harm.
On Tuesday, 21 July 2026, the Kimberley Regional Court found the accused guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The presiding court handed down a direct imprisonment term of 10 years, bringing a definitive end to the criminal proceedings.
The 27-year-old victim, who shared a residence and domestic relationship with the perpetrator, suffered a recurring pattern of physical violence that predominantly escalated over weekends.
The culminating event transpired in the early hours of Thursday, 1 January 2026. While the victim was socializing at a local business establishment in Rietvale, Ritchie, the accused arrived on the scene. He forcibly extracted her from the premises, initiated an assault, and dragged her back to their shared residence, where the physical attack persisted.
Demonstrating resilience, the victim managed to break free and found safety at her parents’ home. She immediately contacted law enforcement, formally opening a docket for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police rapidly traced and apprehended the suspect. Following his initial court appearance, authorities denied his bail application, ensuring he remained behind bars continuously until the finalization of his trial on 21 July 2026.
