Nine SAPS Officers Placed on Leave Over Medicare24 Tender Review

The South African Police Service has placed nine officers on suspension in connection with their roles on the Bid Evaluation Committee for the Medicare24 tender.

According to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, the suspensions are precautionary and will remain in effect while disciplinary processes and associated investigations are finalized. The officers were directly involved in evaluating bids for the contested procurement process.

Mathe reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to ethical governance, stating that SAPS continues to prioritize integrity, transparency, and accountability in all its functions. She noted that the suspensions are intended to safeguard the impartiality of the ongoing inquiries.

While specific details regarding the allegations have not been made public, SAPS confirmed that standard procedural fairness will be observed throughout the investigation. The service emphasized that all individuals involved will be treated in accordance with internal policies and applicable labor laws.

SAPS indicated that further communication will follow as the matter develops, underscoring its commitment to addressing any irregularities in procurement matters with seriousness and diligence.
