MTHATHA, Eastern Cape — As a new political entrant, Phakama Eastern Cape (PEC) is making its mark on the 2026 local government election campaign trail by announcing its mayoral candidate for the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality. The party is stepping into a highly competitive race, contesting for seats against more than 20 other political parties and independent candidates in the region.
Stepping into the spotlight as the face of this new political movement is Phikolomzi Adonis, who has been officially named the PEC mayoral candidate for the KSD municipality. Adonis presented the party’s manifesto to the public, outlining a clear and aggressive agenda tailored to the immediate needs of the local populace.
Adonis stated that Phakama Eastern Cape has resolved to prioritize five core issues for the people of the KSD municipality. While outlining the broader five-point plan, he detailed three immediate and critical action areas:
First, the party has taken a strict stance on border and municipal enforcement, committing to chasing away illegal immigrants and ensuring that no undocumented foreign nationals operate businesses within the municipality.
Second, PEC aims to relieve the financial burden on residents by tackling exorbitant electricity tariffs and municipal rates. Adonis promised to aggressively reduce these costs and introduced an innovative solution to support households with solar panels, ensuring that electricity becomes more affordable and accessible.
Third, the party is targeting youth unemployment through a restructuring of municipal funds. Adonis proposed a shift in how the government’s equitable share fund is utilized. Rather than spending the funds solely on basic services, PEC intends to invest this capital directly into small businesses and other economic activities to stimulate job creation and empower young entrepreneurs.
