SAPS Police Trainee Recruitment Surges Past 300,000 Applications for 5,500 Posts

SOUTH AFRICA – The South African Police Service (SAPS) police trainee recruitment drive has garnered massive national interest, surpassing 300,000 profile registrations for 5,500 available trainee posts. The unprecedented response highlights strong demand among young South Africans seeking careers in law enforcement.

The official eRecruitment portal opened on 21 October 2026, registering 156,131 profiles nationwide within the first 24 hours. As of the most recent Saturday, more than 232,000 applicants have completed profile verification, and over 190,000 have initiated their applications. To date, a total of 172,721 applications have been fully completed and submitted for the available positions.

Demographic data indicates strong female participation in the recruitment drive. Female applicants have submitted more than 95,000 applications, compared to over 76,000 submitted by male applicants. By racial group, the applications received are categorized as 160,000 African, 11,000 Coloured, 600 Indian, and 150 White applicants.

Provincially, Gauteng recorded the highest volume of submitted applications at 49,518. It is followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 33,661, the Eastern Cape with 17,441, Limpopo with 16,251, and the Western Cape with 16,249. Rounding out the provincial figures are Mpumalanga (14,900), Free State (11,345), North West (9,179), and the Northern Cape (4,177).

Addressing the technical impact of this surge, a SAPS police statement confirmed that the high volume of traffic on the eRecruitment portal may cause delays or slower response times for users attempting to register or submit their applications. However, the statement emphasized that the portal remains fully operational. The SAPS Technology Management Services division, alongside its technology partners, is working around the clock to manage the increased demand and ensure the continued functioning of the system.

The police statement assured applicants who have successfully submitted their forms that their submissions remain valid and require no further action. SAPS urged prospective candidates to exercise patience, avoid repeated registration attempts that unnecessarily strain the system, and apply outside of peak hours where possible. Only individuals who have not received an acknowledgement email should consider reapplying.

Applicants are advised to rely exclusively on official SAPS communication channels for recruitment information and updates. The eRecruitment portal is accessible at https://erecruitment.saps.gov.za. The recruitment drive will officially close on Friday, 13 November 2026, and prospective trainees are strongly encouraged to finalize their submissions well before this deadline.
