Stolen Vehicle Recovered, One Suspect Fatally Wounded in Soshanguve as Police Hunt Accomplice

A manhunt is underway for a second suspect following a police operation in Soshanguve on Thursday, 04 June 2026, which left one suspected vehicle hijacker fatally wounded.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Tshwane District has officially registered both a hijacking case and an inquest docket to investigate the incident and the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s injuries.

During the intervention, law enforcement successfully tracked down and recovered the stolen vehicle. Officers also confiscated a loaded 9mm handgun at the scene. The firearm has been sent for forensic testing to establish whether it is linked to any other criminal activities.

SAPS confirmed that all police members involved in the operation emerged unharmed. Detectives are now intensifying their efforts to trace and arrest the remaining suspect, who managed to flee and is currently at large.
