Suspect Sought After Victim Dragged By Vehicle

A manhunt is underway after a 39-year-old man was allegedly struck and dragged by a motor vehicle in an attempted murder incident at Xipungu soccer ground on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

The incident occurred at approximately 15:30 when the victim, a resident of Xipungu village, was walking from a local tavern toward the soccer field. According to police, a maroon Volkswagen Polo approached from behind and knocked him down.

After regaining his footing, the victim confronted the driver to ask why he had been hit. The suspect allegedly responded by accelerating away, striking the man with the vehicle’s side mirror. The victim fell a second time, and the vehicle’s rear wheel rolled over his right shoulder, dragging him along the ground until reaching the tarred road.

Suffering upper-body injuries, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. His current condition has not been publicly released.

Letsitele Police have opened a formal attempted murder docket and are appealing for assistance. Specifically, authorities are requesting that Lazarus Khoza present himself at the nearest police station to aid investigators.
