Three Arrested, Including SAPS Constable, in Limpopo Dagga Trafficking Bust

Police in Groblersdal, Sekhukhune District, have arrested three suspects, including a serving South African Police Service (SAPS) constable, for alleged dagga trafficking following an intelligence-driven operation on Monday, 11 May 2026.

The operation was conducted at the Groblersdal Bus Terminal at approximately 18:00. Members of the Sekhukhune Highway Patrol acted on information about two vehicles reportedly transporting dagga to Musina.

The identified vehicles—a red Audi A3 sedan and a black Audi A3—were located and ordered to stop. According to police, the vehicles failed to comply, leading to a pursuit. Officers eventually stopped and searched both vehicles, discovering seventeen (17) compressed bales of dagga inside. The dagga is yet to be weighed as part of ongoing case processing.

The three arrested suspects are two males, aged 33 and 36, and a 23-year-old female. The 33-year-old male was identified as an SAPS constable stationed at SAPS Carolina in Mpumalanga Province.

The case docket has been transferred to the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for further investigation.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrests and stated that the SAPS remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and criminality without fear or favour.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court.
