OGIES — Members of the Middelburg Flying Squad arrested two male suspects, aged 36 and 39, for the unlawful possession of ammunition during a routine patrol operation on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
At approximately 20:00, officers conducting crime prevention duties along the N12 highway in the Ogies policing area stopped and searched a black BMW 1 Series bearing Gauteng registration plates. The vehicle was occupied by two men: a South African national and a Mozambican national.
During the search, police discovered a black plastic bag concealed inside a first-aid kit located in the vehicle’s boot. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
When questioned about the ammunition, the occupants failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or produce any documentation authorizing them to possess it. Consequently, both men were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.
Police confiscated the following items:
– 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition
– Two cellular phones
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face the relevant charges.
