The young South African driver takes the next step in his motorsport career, transitioning from competitive karting into single-seater racing.
GQEBERHA, SOUTH AFRICA: Gqeberha-born racing talent Aashay Nagura is taking an exciting next step in his motorsport career after joining Into Africa Racing, as the team expands into single-seater racing through the Investchem MSA4 Championship.
At just 14 years old, the young driver has already established an impressive karting record, competing at both national and international level. His move into single-seater racing marks an important milestone in his journey towards pursuing a professional motorsport career.
Gerald Ekron, Team Manager at Into Africa Racing, describes the announcement as the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the team.
“A new chapter begins for Into Africa Racing as we proudly announce our expansion into single-seater racing, with young South African talent Aashay Nagura joining the team!”
For Aashay, joining Into Africa Racing presents an opportunity to build on the experience he has gained through years of competitive karting while taking on the challenge of a new racing category.
“Every race is a chance to learn and improve. My dream is to race professionally one day and represent South Africa at the highest level of motorsport,” says Aashay.
From a childhood passion to international competition
Aashay’s passion for motorsport began at home behind the wheel of virtual cars on his PlayStation. What started as a hobby quickly developed into a serious ambition, inspiring him to find a way into competitive racing.
Determined to turn his dream into reality, he began saving money by doing extra chores around the house. His first simulator steering wheel and headset only strengthened his interest in the sport.
His first major step into real racing came through a fundraising raffle, which enabled him to purchase a second-hand go-kart and safety equipment, launching his karting career at just nine years old.
Since then, Aashay has steadily worked his way through the competitive karting ranks, gaining valuable experience both locally and internationally. His dedication to the sport has also required considerable discipline, with his demanding training and racing schedule accommodated through homeschooling.
Earlier in his career, Aashay was selected to represent South Africa at the prestigious Champions of the Future Academy series in the United Kingdom, where he was set to compete across four renowned circuits: Silverstone, PFI Kart Circuit, Larkhall in Scotland and Wilton Mill.
His commitment to driver development has also taken him to Sweden for specialised training on a frozen lake, further preparing him for the transition from karting into circuit car racing.
An impressive record on the track
Despite his young age, Aashay has already delivered several standout performances nationally and internationally.
His achievements include winning the 2024 Port Elizabeth Mini ROK National Event, securing third overall at the 2024 IAME International Final in South Garda, Italy, and finishing third overall in the 2025 Northern Regional ROK Series (OKJ Rookie Season). He also achieved fifth overall in the 2025 ROK Cup South African Nationals (OKJ), despite missing the opening event.
His results reflect years of commitment, training and determination, as he continues to challenge himself against some of the strongest emerging drivers in the sport.
Gerald says the team’s expansion into Investchem MSA4 is about more than simply adding another category to its racing programme.
“Having established ourselves in GT and endurance racing, this marks an exciting new direction for Into Africa Racing. Our move into Investchem MSA4 is about more than expanding our racing programme.”
He adds that developing young talent is central to the team’s vision.
“It represents our commitment to building the future of the team, developing young South African talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of racing drivers.”
A new chapter with Into Africa Racing
For Aashay, joining Into Africa Racing marks the next stage in his transition from karting into single-seater competition. The opportunity will allow him to build on his existing racing experience while developing his skills in a highly competitive environment.
Gerald believes Aashay is an exciting addition to the team as it enters this new chapter.
“And what better way to begin this journey than with Aashay Nagura!”
As Aashay prepares for the challenges ahead, he remains focused on learning, improving and making the most of the opportunities presented by this next stage of his career.
For the young driver, the ambition remains clear: to compete professionally and represent South Africa at the highest level of international motorsport.
Gerald says the team is equally excited about what lies ahead.
“As Aashay prepares to make the step from karting into single-seater racing, we are proud to support him in this important stage of his motorsport career.”
For Into Africa Racing, this marks the beginning of an exciting new journey in the single-seater paddock. Alongside its continued commitment to GT and endurance racing, the team looks forward to establishing itself in the category and contributing to the development of future South African motorsport talent.
