Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Unveils ‘Operation Economic Outcast’ to Isolate Iran

WASHINGTON — In a major escalation of financial pressure, the United States has initiated “Operation Economic Outcast,” a comprehensive strategy championed by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to completely isolate Iran. The campaign mandates that international partners immediately sever all economic ties with Tehran, warning that Washington will actively retaliate against any nation or entity that continues to provide the regime with revenue.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made it clear that this financial crackdown will be absolute and universally applied. Emphasizing the severity of the measure, he stated that every global actor must be prepared to confront US sanctions, asserting that “no one is above this.” The administration’s stated objective is to hold all enablers accountable, a strategy Bessent explicitly characterized as the “economic asphyxiation” of the Iranian regime.

According to the Treasury’s assessment, Tehran is now confronted with a binary reality. The regime must choose between enduring complete global isolation alongside a crippled, sanctioned economy, or altering its course to find a path back to normalcy, which would include the opportunity to reintegrate into the international financial system.

This aggressive financial ultimatum arrives roughly six months after military strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, an event that ignited the current regional war. Since that initial escalation, the broader conflict has largely settled into a grinding stalemate. Diplomatic negotiations have stalled, while strategic tensions continue to mount, particularly regarding security and navigation in the vital Strait of Hormuz.
