Petrol Attendant Arrested for Alleged Fuel Card Cloning

Hawks officers arrested a 34-year-old petrol attendant on Friday, 12 December 2025, for allegedly cloning fuel cards.

The arrest followed a complaint from financial institution investigators and the Truckstop Inn fuel station. An investigation by the banks determined card users suffered an estimated loss of R469,000.

The Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit in Middelburg operationalised the information. Upon searching the attendant at the fuel station, they found a card cloning device.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 December 2025.
