A stabilization team operating in the West Rand district has recovered two unlicensed firearms and arrested three suspects following an intelligence-driven operation in Silver City, Bekkersdal, on Friday.
The multidisciplinary team, which comprised members of the Public Order Policing unit and Bekkersdal visible policing, acted on a tip-off regarding the presence of illegal firearms in the area on 20 February 2026.
Upon arriving at the specified location, officers confronted three men. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of two firearms, which had been concealed, along with a quantity of ammunition.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 29, were immediately taken into custody. They face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The three individuals are scheduled to make their first court appearance before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 February 2026. The stabilization operations are part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address the proliferation of illegal weapons in the West Rand district.
