Police have arrested a 25-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old female student at a TVET college in Mthatha.
According to a report by the South African Police Service, the incident occurred on Saturday, 14 February, at approximately 06:00. It is alleged that the victim was drinking liquor with a group of people in a student residence when she lost consciousness. Upon waking, she reportedly exhibited signs consistent with sexual assault.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, 22 February 2026. Forensic samples have been collected from other persons of interest as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate Court on Monday, 23 February 2026, facing a charge of rape. Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing.
