Police in Ficksburg have arrested a 32-year-old foreign national in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a 58-year-old man during a traditional gathering.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in Meqheleng township near Ficksburg. It is alleged that the suspect shot the victim during the feast. The victim, a resident of Meqheleng, survived the attack.
Following the shooting, police launched an investigation that led to the apprehension of the suspect. Upon searching the individual, officers recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The suspect was taken into custody and is due to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 February 2026. The specific charges against the individual include possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, in addition to attempted murder.
