A 41-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Springs Magistrate Court by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Middelburg and the Nkangala District Flying Squad.
The arrest stems from an incident on February 27, 2026, in Emalahleni. According to authorities, three armed suspects ambushed security guards who were preparing to load money at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). One security official was shot and killed, and another was fatally wounded.
The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a VW Jetta and a VW Polo Sedan.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to appear before the Witbank Magistrates Court on Monday, March 23, 2026, facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, conspiracy to commit murder, and being an illegal immigrant.
