ANC Branches Accuse District Leadership of Manipulating Regional Congress

Klerksdorp – Several branches of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District of North West have formally alleged that the party’s recent regional conference was manipulated.

The conference, held in Potchefstroom on 14 and 15 March, is now at the center of an internal dispute. Branches from across the district raised their concerns during a regional consultative council held in Klerksdorp on Sunday.

According to statements made at the council, the grievances focus on the selection process of delegates and the alleged failure to follow official party guidelines. Issues raised included contested membership processes and what branch representatives described as broad procedural irregularities. Some members also reported problems with their participation in Branch General Meetings (BGMs) and broader Branch General Assemblies (BGAs).

The ANC in the region maintains that despite repeated attempts to engage with internal organisational processes, no decisive organisational intervention has been forthcoming. Branch members stated that their internal engagement efforts have so far failed to produce meaningful outcomes or an intervention basis.

The matter has been escalated to the African National Congress at a higher level, with branches indicating they are still awaiting feedback.

An academic from the North West University, Professor Andre Duvenhage, commented on the situation, noting that decision-making processes within the ANC have shown some inconsistencies, with conclusions appearing to be determined somewhere outside of clear procedural frameworks.
