Police officers from Mahamba arrested five suspects during a stop-and-search operation on the N2 Road near a farm on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, after discovering dagga valued at more than R153,000.
At approximately 22:15, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) conducting routine crime prevention duties stopped and searched a white Toyota Venture with KwaZulu-Natal registration plates traveling towards Newcastle.
During the search, police found 15 rolls of dagga with a total weight of 25.5 kilograms. The street value of the drugs is estimated at over R153,000.
Five male suspects, aged between 30 and 34 years, were arrested immediately and charged with possession and dealing in dagga.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 22 May 2026.
