LIMPOPO — A 29-year-old man is facing serious charges following a targeted unlicensed firearm arrest in Sekhukhune, Limpopo, after law enforcement recovered a 9mm handgun and live ammunition.
The successful operation was executed between July 23 and July 24, 2026, through a collaborative effort by the Sekhukhune District Tactical Team, the Investigation Team, and the Zaaiplaas police. According to police spokespersons, the tactical deployment was initiated as a direct result of an ongoing investigation into a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Acting on a crucial tip-off regarding a suspect harboring an illegal weapon at the Madala Stands section, officers descended on the area. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials properly identified themselves before conducting a lawful search of the suspect’s room.
During the search, police successfully seized one 9mm firearm along with 10 rounds of live ammunition. When confronted with the recovered weapons, the 29-year-old suspect was unable to produce a valid license for the firearm, leading to his immediate arrest for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police spokespersons confirmed that the suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance at the local Magistrate’s Court on July 27, 2026. Meanwhile, authorities have indicated that police investigations into the broader circumstances surrounding the illegal weapon remain ongoing, aligning with broader community safety initiatives to keep guns off the streets.
