Police recover hijacked truck load, Virginia, Free State

The South African Police Service has successfully recovered a truckload of stolen goods following a hijacking incident reported at the Odendaalsrus police.

On 1 February 2025, at approximately 19:30, a 38-year-old truck driver was allegedly hijacked while parked on the N5 road near Winburg. The driver had stopped his truck to relieve himself when two unknown armed suspects confronted him.

The suspects, both speaking Zulu and wearing masks, threatened the victim at gunpoint, instructing him to cooperate if he wanted to see his family again. One of the suspects covered the driver’s head with a bag while the other drove off with the truck, which was transporting Nestlé products, including Ricoffy and Milo.

The victim was later abandoned near the R34 road in Odendaalsrus, while the suspects fled with the vehicle.

Following an intensive investigation and a tip-off from private security and the community, members and detectives from Virginia police recovered the stolen truckload of Ricoffy and Milo at two houses in Virginia this afternoon. The confiscated goods have been secured as evidence and investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
