FREE STATE — A swift Bloemfontein CBD drug arrest was executed this week after the South African Police Service (SAPS) Parkroad Tactical Response Team (TRT) acted on a community tip-off regarding illicit drug dealing in the city center.
On Wednesday, 1 July 2026, at approximately 15:15, TRT operators were conducting targeted operations focused on local crime hotspots within the Bloemfontein Central Business District (CBD). During the patrol, the team received critical intelligence from a vigilant community member regarding a suspect actively selling dagga behind a grocery store on Charles Street. The informant provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect’s attire and baggage.
Acting immediately on the information, TRT operators proceeded to the designated location and spotted an African male matching the exact description provided. The suspect was observed in possession of a maroon bag and a black side bag.
Upon searching the individual and his belongings, police discovered 25 large transparent plastic bags filled with dagga, carrying an estimated street value of approximately R25,000. Investigators also recovered a small silver digital weighing scale concealed inside the maroon bag. Furthermore, an undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime, was found hidden inside the black side bag.
Following the seizure, the 37-year-old foreign national was immediately placed under arrest on charges of dealing in dagga. SAPS Parkroad TRT spokespersons confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and is expected to make his first appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
