HOEDSPRUIT — A major Hoedspruit drug bust has resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the confiscation of a massive dagga shipment valued at R1,575,000. Acting on intelligence, local law enforcement and community partners intercepted the illicit cargo, marking a significant victory against regional drug trafficking networks in Limpopo.
The intelligence-led operation unfolded on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at approximately 13:30. Officers from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Hoedspruit, working in tandem with the Hoedspruit Farm Watch, targeted a vehicle travelling along the route from Acornhoek towards Hoedspruit.
Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, which was identified as a white Toyota Hilux Twin Cab, authorities discovered 31 bags filled with the illegal substance. The vehicle, suspected to be the primary instrument used in the commission of the crime, was impounded alongside the narcotics as evidence. Two individuals, aged 38 and 43, were apprehended at the scene in possession of the consignment.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the collaborative effort between the police and community policing structures. Highlighting the strategic importance of the operation, she stated, “The seizure of drugs with such a significant street value is a clear indication of our commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within the province. We commend the vigilance of our members and the valuable partnership with community stakeholders in ensuring safer communities.”
The two accused are scheduled to make their first appearance at the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
