A 26-year-old man is in custody following a successful drug interdiction operation by the Kwadwesi South African Police Service (SAPS) on Sunday evening, 24 May 2026.
The operation began around 20:00 when members of the Kwadwesi Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) were conducting routine stop-and-search patrols along Mbeki Road in Zinyoka, a location frequently flagged for criminal activity. Acting on credible intelligence from a reliable source, officers learned of suspected drug-dealing at a residence on nearby Madwara Street.
Police swiftly secured a search warrant and arrived at the targeted address at approximately 21:10. After identifying themselves and explaining the purpose of their visit, officers conducted a lawful search of the property.
Inside a black sling bag found on the premises, investigators recovered:
- 19 transparent packets containing Tik (methamphetamine);
- 17 transparent packets containing CAT (a synthetic stimulant); and
- R385 in cash.
The suspect, identified as Anele Sikweyiya, 26, was arrested at the scene and formally charged with dealing in drugs.
Sikweyiya is scheduled to make his first appearance in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026. SAPS confirmed that the investigation remains active as authorities continue efforts to disrupt illegal drug distribution networks in the area.
