WESTERN CAPE – A joint operation by the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence has resulted in the seizure of 41,000 Mandrax tablets and the arrest of a Zimbabwean truck driver in Kraaifontein. The illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of R2.05 million, were intercepted during a targeted law enforcement operation on the N1 highway.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding a Volvo truck transporting narcotics from Johannesburg to Cape Town, police officials tracked and stopped the vehicle at a petrol station. A subsequent search of the commercial vehicle revealed two duffel bags concealed with the Mandrax tablets.
A 44-year-old male suspect was taken into custody at the scene. He has been formally charged with possession of and dealing in illegal drugs.
According to police officials, the suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 September 2026. This successful joint operation highlights ongoing efforts by the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence to dismantle and disrupt major drug trafficking routes into the Western Cape.
