VAAL — A kidnapped truck driver was located safely and multiple suspects were apprehended following a coordinated operation by police and private security forces on June 16.
The investigation was initiated at approximately 09:00 when Fidelity ADT Vaal, acting in conjunction with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other security partners, received intelligence regarding an abandoned trailer in the Mooiland area.
Upon mobilizing response teams, investigators determined that the trailer—containing a shipment of kitchenware and electronic goods—had been hijacked earlier in Heidelberg. During the hijacking, the truck’s driver was abducted by the suspects.
Following the discovery of the abandoned trailer, authorities tracked the hijacked truck to a separate location, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. Later that day, further intelligence led operatives to a property in Mooiland, where an additional suspect connected to the hijacking was identified and apprehended.
Police confirmed that the abducted truck driver was successfully located and found unharmed. Both the stolen truck and the trailer, along with its cargo, were recovered.
Law enforcement and security officials credited the successful outcome of the operation to inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-driven policing, formally acknowledging the joint efforts of the SAPS, Fidelity ADT, and participating security partners.
