NORTH WEST – A targeted Marikana firearm arrest has disrupted local illegal weapons networks after police apprehended a 41-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The apprehension occurred during a specialized raid in Lapologang, highlighting ongoing provincial efforts to enforce strict gun control and advance the #GunsOffTheStreets initiative.
On Thursday, 30 July 2026, the Marikana Crime Prevention Unit executed the raid based on actionable tips. The operation was bolstered by direct support from Crime Intelligence operatives and the Rustenburg Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), who collaborated to operationalize the received information and locate the target.
Upon searching the suspect’s residence in Lapologang, law enforcement officers confiscated one unlicensed firearm, associated ammunition, and a replica weapon. The individual, who is believed to be a national of Lesotho, was taken into custody immediately following the discovery.
The suspect is slated to make his first appearance at the Marikana Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. He will formally answer to charges pertaining to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
