MPUMALANGA — A significant Middelburg Flying Squad drug arrest has taken a suspected narcotics trafficker off the streets following a dramatic high-speed pursuit along the N12 highway late Thursday night. The successful interception highlights ongoing tactical efforts to secure major transit routes and prevent the transit of illegal substances through the province.
The incident unfolded on the evening of 23 July 2026, at approximately 21:30. While conducting active highway patrols, tactical members observed a silver Audi A4 displaying Gauteng license plates traveling at excessive speeds. The vehicle was spotted shortly after passing the Watermeyer off-ramp, prompting officers to immediately pursue the speeding sedan.
Following a brief but intense chase, the unit managed to safely intercept and stop the vehicle. A spokesperson for the Middelburg Flying Squad confirmed that upon approaching the car, officers noted there was only a single occupant inside.
A subsequent search of the automobile led to a major discovery concealed within the boot. Authorities uncovered 32 individual packets containing substances that are strongly suspected to be illegal narcotics.
The 36-year-old driver was immediately taken into custody at the scene of the traffic stop. According to police spokespersons, the suspect is currently being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court. There, the individual will face formal prosecution on serious charges of drug dealing.
