Two Bodies Recovered from Nelspruit’s Crocodile River as Police Hunt for Potential Third Victim

Authorities have launched a culpable homicide investigation after the South African Police Service (SAPS) Search and Rescue Team pulled two bodies from the Crocodile River near Kamagugu on Sunday, 07 June 2026.

The recovered deceased include a 20-year-old man and a young woman whose age is estimated to be between 18 and 23 years old.

The incident took a further turn as police were preparing to wrap up their recovery operations at the scene. A family arrived at the riverbank to report their son missing, stating he was believed to have been traveling in the vehicle involved in the tragedy. The relatives noted that the young man has not returned home and his cellphone remains unreachable, raising fears that he is a third victim currently missing in the river.

Following this urgent development, the SAPS Search and Rescue Team may extend their operations to scour the waters for the missing young man.

Authorities have officially opened a case of culpable homicide, and police investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident are actively ongoing.
