GQEBERHA – Swartkops SAPS members have successfully recovered four stolen e-bicycles valued at approximately R500,000 in Wells Estate, following a swift and targeted investigation into a recent residential burglary.
The recovery operation took place on Thursday, 10 September 2026, at approximately 19:05. Acting on credible intelligence regarding concealed stolen property, Swartkops SAPS Vispol members executed a search at a residence on Australia Street in Wells Estate. During the search, authorities discovered the four black e-bicycles hidden inside a room, carefully wrapped in black plastic to obscure their identity.
Subsequent investigations confirmed that the high-value electric bicycles were stolen earlier that same morning during a residential burglary within the Kabega Park policing area. Records indicate that on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, at approximately 22:00, the e-bicycles were securely stored at a private residence in Henry Gerber Crescent, Kamma Ridge. The theft was discovered the following morning at approximately 05:00 when the complainant arrived at the property and identified the break-in.
At the time of the recovery, no suspects were present at the Australia Street premises, and no arrests have been made. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with focused efforts directed toward identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible for the burglary and theft.
Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo, the Nelson Mandela Bay Acting District Commissioner, publicly commended the Swartkops SAPS members for their rapid response and the effective utilization of intelligence. Brigadier Ngalo highlighted that their decisive actions directly resulted in the recovery of high-value stolen property within hours of the initial burglary report, preventing further illicit distribution of the goods.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any additional information that may assist in the apprehension of the suspects.
